Do you dress your baby in designer clothes?

Posted under Infant Baby Clothes by admin on Sunday 20 December 2009

I am related to someone (not by blood) who dresses her toddler up in stuff like Tommy, Gap, Abercrombie, and expensive mall brands, ect. She is young — 20 yrs old. I believe that she doesn’t have the money to be spending it on expensive clothes. When they are babies– why give them brand names– i do know that when your a teenager you want the brand names so why not buy it for them when they are teens? Also, she shows it off like she is so proud of it like she is made of money. I know she is not. My daughter is still an infant and of course I have splurged on baby gear but not on clothes that will be drooled on and stained, also I have been given some used clothes too. Does anyone else here agree?

leave her alone she can dress her baby how she likes. but i do agree with you really…nobody cares what a baby is wearing, they just look at their cute faces!

  1. I agree completely. I am also related (not by blood) to a woman who does this with her son. He’s always traipsing around in clothes she can’t afford. He’s nearly five years old now & it’s been this way since he was born. I don’t get it. Meanwhile, the mom is in credit card debt to wazoo.

This isn’t the message I am teaching my children. This message of whatever feels good, do it, no matter the cost. It sort of explains the state of things today, don’tya think?

  2. When your child is a baby you get the choice about what they wear, and you can pretty much put them in what you like. By the time my girl was 2 she had opinions, things she wouldn’t wear, and soon after things she plain refused to let me buy, now she’s 5 and pretty much chooses her own stuff. Now I wish I’d chucked out all the crappy clothes I got as presents and splashed out a little more dressing her up when I could. So let your relative do what she likes, it won’t be under her control for long.

  4. I have tons of designer clothes for my daughter, but it is for me, because I enjoy dressing her up. I am also 30 years old and have a college degree and a comfortable family income- and a college fund for my daughter- and health insurance…..etc,etc, so I splurge when I find something I love. I figure that she will probably outgrow letting me dress her how I want soon enough.

I do agree that is dumb for a young mom with not alot of money to spend on clothes and prioritize fashion over, say getting an education, or having health insurance, or getting off the dole…

I know how I dress my daughter is not practical- but I enjoy doing it and I can afford it. However, if money were tight, my cutie pie would wear only gerber onsies….until I could actually afford to splurge again.

  5. Only if I get on the sale rack really cheap!!

I have never paid full-price for any of my daughter’s clothes! All items are bought on sale, or off the clearance rack. I already have clothes for her for next summer that I got for 75% off!!
Garage sales are awesome to find some of those designer clothes too. She may have gotten some of them that way or from friends. Let the crazy people spend the money and then you buy it from them for cheap!

  6. I never dressed in ANY designer brands until I was 13, and I bought some for myself to see what the big deal was.
In fact, when I was in elementary school, all my clothes came from Wal-Mart, Target, or they were hand-me-downs from my cousins. Actually, a lot of my clothes still are from Target.

It’s just stupid. My neighbor’s kids are dressed in Hollister and stuff and they’re not even four years old yet. I mean, what values are these children getting taught? They’re your children, not your dress-up dolls!

  7. I buy all my kids clothes at consignment stores. I love Old Navy, Gap and The Childrens Place. I am lucky enough that the clothes that the consignment stores carry are the brands I love. I would never buy my children designer clothes because I cannot afford it, they grow out of clothes so fast and their clothes get stained.

  11. I agree. I have found that no matter how much it cost, it still stains, rips and falls apart the same. I only buy sale items . I love name brand, hand-me-downs. That way I don’t feel so bad if they get dirty. Until my kids are older and take better care of their clothes, its Wal-Mart for me.

  12. I agree too. Designer clothes on a baby is just throwing your money in the garbage. I still buy my kids clothes from mervyns and khols. There is no way I will spend $40 on a pay of jeans my kids will get stained and never be able to wear again.

  13. Like another girl said when I do have a baby most likely I will dress her up because I shop at Hollister,AE,Abercrombie, ect…It makes me feel better to know my clothes didnt come from a discount store and arent going to fall apart and look cheap.
