I’m 5 weeks. When is too soon to start buying things? I know its way too soon to do it now! But when should you start? I know that if you start buying things too early there wont be anything to do later on during the pregnancy. Should I start after I find out what the baby’s sex is? But I don’t want to wait that long.. Lol.
I don’t see any reason why you should wait. There are a lot of things that you can get that are unisex since you don’t know the sex of the baby yet. There will be plenty of things to do later on in your pregnancy, so don’t worry about buying things too early. I would keep my eye out for some good clearance sales that are going on. Also, you will probably get a lot of clothes from friends and family, so you might want to start stocking up on things like diapers and wipes too.
Congratulations and good luck!
if you plan on finding out the sex, then i would wait,if not i would wait til about 3 months, thats when they say your out of the woods, so to speak. I had a friend who found out she was prego and started buying everything under the sun only to have a miscarriage at 10 wks. then she totally blamed herself for pushing tomuch. Just take it easy, and dont push to hard.

I always waited until the 20 week ultrasound to buy things. You can always buy a cute outfit you find on sale…just keep the receipt. You should save most of it until the nesting time anyway.

You can always go shopping but limit yourself to buying just one small thing like a hat or socks. Then when you’re in your second or third tirmester you can set up the nursery, buy furniture and other things you’ll need. Good luck.

Wait to buy things until after the first trimester. If the unfortunate event of a miscarriage, you don’t want to have the baby things reminding you of the whole thing. After the first trimester take it easy until you find out the baby’s sex (at around 20 wks), so you know better what to get. But, don’t go crazy because friends and family want to help you and might throw you a baby shower—It makes them feel much more helpful if you don’t already have everything already. (I attended a friend’s shower like this–it was really awkward since she had already bought everything herself).

wAIT….I’m sure your going to have a shower. My dayghter had so much stuff at her shower that the baby wore some of the clothes only once or maybe never.

I waited until I was in my 2nd trimester before I bought anything just because I wanted to get through the "crucial" part of pregnancy first. (miscarriages are very frequent in my family) But after that I went crazy!!!! It was so fun to go to Babies R Us and see all the nice stuff. The first thing I bought was the crib!
Another thing to remember too is that usually in January they have baby sales everywhere. It’s a good time to buy things like the crib and nursery items.
Good luck!

I would wait at least until the 2nd trimester. that way you are less likely to have a miscarriage. But you should really wait until you know the sex. What kind of clothes would you buy? boy or girl?

Baby’s Needs Checklist
Below is a checklist of all the things you will need to buy before your baby is born. Simply go through and take note of the things you want your baby to have.
Use it as a guide. It is always best to wait until you are at least three months pregnant before buying in for the baby as you might find out what sex your baby is when you have an ultrasound, or in case of any problems.
Diaper Changing
Cloth or disposable diapers : cloth diapers are cheaper and better for the environment while disposable diapers are easier
Disposable cloth delivery service : There are many companies that will deliver disposable diapers to your door and their service is more affordable than you might think
Safety pins if using cloth diapers, and rubber pants.
Diaper pail.
Diaper bags
Baby wipes : use thick soft wipes they are gentler to baby’s bottom or cotton wool and water is just as good
Changing mat
Diaper rash cream
Changing bag for traveling : try to get one that has a built in changing mat
Baby’s Clothing
Sleep suits : if your baby is born in the winter months then buy thick warm sleep suits, buy thin cotton ones if your baby is born in the summer months
Vests.
Cardigans
Socks
Booties
Scratch mittens
Hats (woolen if winter, cotton if summer.)
Snow suit if winter
Remember to only buy a few of each until after your baby is born. Buy clothes in unisex colours(lemon, white, mint) unless you know what the sex of your baby is going to be.
Bathing Baby
Baby bath : you can usually buy baby baths that have a number of different accessories with them like thermometer, towel, potty and more as they often work out to be cheaper
Shampoo, baby soap, sponge and flannel
Baby brush or comb and scissors
Baby lotion, oil and talc
Baby towel : the softer the better; always wash towels before using them
Thermometer
Try and buy diapers and toiletries in bulk so as you won’t need to worry about them when the baby is born allowing you to enjoy your time with the baby
Baby’s Sleep
For the first few months you will need either a moses basket, crib or bassinet
Bassinet
Mattress
Sheets : fitted sheets are easiest but can be a bit expensive; buy at least four sheets as they need changing quite often
Several light blankets : use light colours; keep baby close by at night for the first few months and never use a pillow or duvet.
Breastfeeding
Breast pump : this for pumping breast milk into a bottle
Nursing bras : cotton is best as it allows air to circulate
Breast pads
Nipple cream : check with your doctor or mid wife first
Bottle feeding
Bottles : at least six bottles, sterilising equipment and sterilising tablets or fluid
Bottle brush
Bottle warmer
Infant formula milk : don’t buy too far inadvance and always check the sell by date
Bibs
Make sure you always sterilize bottles properly after use. To save time you can make bottles up in advance and keep them in the refrigerator but only keep them for up to twenty four hours at a time
Out and About
Pram : prams are very comfortable and warm for babies but are no good for public transport
Strollers
Raincover
Shawl/blanket : always carry one with you to keep baby warm
Other Things
Baby bouncer : these are ideal to keep baby happy while you do other things
High chair
Mobile for cot
Baby listener
Dummies
Soft toys

Well, I don’t know. I have always been so excited to be pregnant that I would go out and get unisex colored outfits. That way, it doesn’t matter what you end up having. But I think that it would be wise to wait til at least 12 weeks before you start doing too much. Just relax, enjoy yourself and congratulations. And when you do start buying, start out with wash clothes, towels, blankets and simple items to find in neutral colors. Then after you find out the sex, which do remember is not always correct, go crazy and remember to keep all receipts. Trust me, lol, I’ve had a cousin that the last time she was pregnant, was told that she was gonna have a girl and had everything all pink and decorated in the nursery with ruffles and such, ended up having an adorable little boy. Life is funny sometimes. Good luck with everything.

Well just be a little careful. You never know what may happen. And trust me if you do have a miscarriage, it’s really tough to look through all the things you bought for the baby! Be patient. Buy a few things maybe, but don’t go overboard just in case.

why not start buying diapers now? buy a package of newborn diapers everytime you are at the store. when you think you have enough of those pic up stage 1 and so on. also you can buy things like pacifers bibs blankets( you can never have enough of those) socks hand mittens to prevent scratching buy when and what you want. there is plenty to buy and only nine months to do it . good luck and congrats on the baby.

wait untill your second trimester !
they say once past 3 months then things are more sure to say !
first lets just get some cute little things for your self cuz well how us pregnant ladies feel in the beginning well it helps so hey pamper your self first you deserve it !!!
so hey we are full of stress at these times .and once your in the second trimester !.and the thought of being a mother for the first time or a new mom again is overwhelming our minds..so never to soon i shall say !
if you dont know the sex just buy things of either gender not to much at one time of course but going out and lookin at the cute stuff is great for us mamas .stress relieving great to do with dad and get him involved and hey some exercise to boot right !
so i see no reason to wait just dont do it all at once get one outfit at a time so you dont over buy .believe me and if you get to many outfits the chances are the way newborns grow he/she will probably only wear it once if at all so buy different sizes .
the first couple weeks you wont realy leave the house at all except for maybe doctors or somthin so when you buy neworn cloths buy more of the coverall jammy things and stuff for the weather depending on when your due.,only buy one or 2 going by byes outfits in the newborn size, cuz by the time you start gettin out more she/he will not most likely be wearing that size they grow like crazy the first couple of months haah i have 5 kids and yet i never took my own advise cuz buying is just to fun and stress relieving i always bought to much ahhaha so good thing my sister had a baby and family members or friends babies cuz i always end up with new or almost new outfits that my baby grew to fast for hahah
but hey yea go have fun as long as you are 5 months or so go for it ! and hey dont forget about yourself ok !
bras comfy cloths and some nice things to make us feel like the pregnant beauties we are !,yea i say we cuz i am going for my 6th child now and also 5 weeks !! hahah maybe i should close my factory down hahah hey congrats ok and good luck and on my page is my emails and myspace address come chat anytime ok !!we can stick together with it ! and chat about eachothers bellies hahaha

I found out I was pg at 5 weeks…and starting hitting the clearance racks IMMEDIATELY!! Buy things that are green or yellow or white…they can be worn by both girls and boys. Also, since I know you have the urge to buy cute baby stuff….receiving blankets, little newborn diapers, socks….then when you are about 20 weeks and they can tell you what you are having, you can start buying gender specific stuff!! I have so many clothes!! This baby is clothed until he’s about a year old….
