when buying baby clothes?

We would like to put newborn all the way up to 18 months before the baby comes. Now I know some saving tips like buyin next season when this season dies. Like winter clothes when summer comes. Now my question is how can I determine the sizes they would need and if the baby is born in winter what season is for a 6 month old. We have the money now to supply the clothing but Im afraid we wont when the baby comes along. Can you guys help?

My baby is large for her age(all 3 of mine were), so you may waste your money buying clothes ahead of time. If you go a bit larger than their age, you should be okay. When she is 4 months, plan on her wearing 6 month clothes. When she is 6 months, plan on 9 months. You can buy things that layer, just in case your sizes are off and you need warmer or cooler clothes at that age. If you think you will not have the money later, buy gift certificates or gift cards ahead of time.

Go from you due date, and calculate how old the baby will be at those times. When you do buy clothes, make sure the store has a good return policy, and keep the tags on the clothes and the receipts filed away so you can find them if you need to return/exchange the clothes later.

You can try, but there’s no guarantee your baby’s size will correlate with the age on the labels. You also don’t know what you’ll like on your baby. I found I had definite preferences once my baby arrived that I didn’t know about ahead of time.

I live in a warm climate, so I can buy warm-weather clothes in almost every size, since they’ll wear them all year round. Cooler weather clothes are trickier, because if they don’t fit at the right time of year, they’re useless.

You can look for some basics at resale stores, thrift stores and garage sales, and put the rest of the money aside in an envelope so you can get other clothes as you need them. Put out the word to your friends with kids that you’d love hand-me-downs. Lots of folks are happy to pass them down!

Well, the problem is, you can’t determine the sizes in advance. If you have an average sized baby, you’ll be fine with the regular sizing guidelines, but if your baby is much larger or smaller than average, then it really won’t work. Also, just so you know, different brands fit differently. For example, gerber brand tends to fit a bit smaller than average, and Carter’s/The First Year fit a bit bigger.

My son is 7.5 months old, and he’s still wearing 3-6 month clothes (and he’s been wearing them since he was 2 months old). Luckily, I live in a moderate climate, so what he wore back in February, he can still wear in July.

Sorry, I wish I could help more, but I just wanted to warn you that you might end up buying clothes that your baby won’t fit into in the right seasons!

i wanted to do the same thing and did, but now my son is 7 months old and is wearing mostly 12 month clothes and some 18month, so i would save the money and just buy some newborn clothes and then when the baby out grows them go and buy the next size and so on. hope this helps

I figured out with my son that this isn’t always the best idea. He has always been small for his age, so when he was 12mos, he was still in 6-9mos and when he was 18mos, he just BARELY fit into 12mos clothes. He is now 3 and can still wear 24mos and even still fits into quite a few pairs of his 18mos jeans. This also holds true for my little brother. My mom bought him all kinds of 6-9mos outfits and he is still swimming in them even though he turns 1 at the end of this month.

On the other hand, I have a friend who’s 1yr old was wearing 2T at 9mos. He’s not overfed or anything, just a big baby. I would recomend that you just put away a clothing fund for baby. Only buy up to 3-6mos until you can see just how big he or she is going to be. What my husband and I do is buy our son one outfit everytime we go grocery shopping. It’s a slow process, but we don’t feel the hit of buying his entire wardrobe if we buy it over time. I also shop clearance. Walmart is constantly clearancing out their summer clothes, even during the summer.

    Good luck and congrats!

well as to go ahead and put the money into a savings account so that you will have for baby clothes as all kids come in different sizes and is hard to determine what size they will be in as my little girl i always tried that and i am up to 12 tote of out of season clothes she did not get to wear with tags and a whole lot of money lost

also second hand shopping does great

When I was pregnant, as soon as I found out what I was having a bought some some (my first child and was excited). I bought clothes 2 months before me was born. The clothes I bought was some summer clothes and tons of winter clothes because my baby was born on Sept. 1. Make sure you buy vary of sizes so when you baby starts growing you already have clothes that will fit and when you buy clothes think about how old he will be and what season he will be at that age.

We always shop clearance racks (Target and Walmart are great with their mark downs)…we bought ahead of time but found at 3 months he wore 6 months …6 months my son wore 9 months …at 10 months he wears 12 months (and some 18 month shirts)..so buy extra big and buy a variety..I suggest buying a variety all the way up to 24 months so you’ll be fully stocked in everything..amything baby doesn’t wear you can always regift for a preg. friend or save for baby number 2. Best of luck!!

Our baby never wore newborn clothes (8lbs.15oz) We bought a ton of clothes before the baby was born (our first, we were very excited). I also washed them all (again very excited). well we are all off on seasons. I would suggest keeping a fund and buying clothes once the baby comes…we have wasted a ton of money on clothes he will never wear. Good luck
