Did you start buying maternity clothes & baby items before you conceived?

Posted under Buying Baby Clothes by admin on Sunday 3 January 2010

I have gotten pregnant twice on the pill and I’m guessing that conceiving a 3rd time WITHOUT being on the pill, shouldn’t really take all that long. I have bought a few pairs of maternity jeans because even if it doesn’t happen now, it will happen and I will need them. I like to be prepared! I’ve actually thought about buying the play pen now and looking for an inexpensive crib too so it isn’t so much all at once!

What do you think? Have any of you done this? If you did, are you glad that you did?

Thanks!

I bought some maternity clothes at around 12 weeks, and then starting doing baby stuff at 22 weeks when I found out the sex. (its a girl =)) But my pregnancy was unplanned. If you are planning to have children, then I dont see a problem with buying a crib or some gender neutral stuff. But just dont get ahead of yourself. It can be hard for people to conceive sometimes, and having the baby stuff wont help how you feel if you aren’t able to get pregnant right away.Good luck tho!!!

  1. I didn’t buy a single item until I was through the first trimester. Didn’t want those items sitting around in my house if something bad were to happen.

  2. I’m 14 weeks and the only thing I’ve bought were a couple bigger shirts and a BE band. I don’t plan on buying anything for my baby until I hit the 20 week mark. The risk of miscarrying is so great that I refuse to buy anything until then. I had everything bought before my 12th week last time and I miscarried. Returning the items was the worst thing ever.

  7. I wouldn’t buy baby clothes, maternity clothes, etc that early! Yes there is a large possibility that you may get pregnant, (I know it might sound a bit blunt!), But you cant guarentee that you wont have a miscarraige, stillbirth etc! I would wait atleast until the 12week scan! It is less likely for you to have a period than if you were only a few weeks pregnant!

    good luck with your plans!

  9. I have thought about buying things, but don’t want to just in case it doesn’t happen and I have to go through the heart of seeing them and disposing of them. It’s kind of like tempting fate a little.

Just because you fell twice on the pill doesn’t mean you will instantly fall off the pill.

    Good luck, X
