I had way too many clothes for each stage. I almost wish I had less so she could have gotten more use out each outfit. I would say about 10-15 outfits for each stage, probably about 2-3 of those being sleepers. Lots of onsies and socks are good. Don't buy too much in newborn size, becuase those only fit for about 2 weeks.

I’ll have an easy time answering this for you since I just recently went through this myself

My 5 month old was 7lbs7oz when she was born, yet she was in preemie clothes for the first month. She was so tiny even though her birth weight was about average. I would do about 4 preemie onesies, 4 0-3 month, 8 3-6month, and 8 6-9 month. I would also get 2 nice "going out" outfits in each of those sizes for starters, then you won’t have to run out and buy clothes for her once she’s born – this will be enough for the first few months at least.

My daughter was "swimming" in her 0-3 month outfits when she was born, so I had my mom run out and buy her some preemie outfits so she would have something that actually fit.

I felt the same way as you and started to panic toward the end as well, but everything turned out fine. Good Luck and Congratulations!

If you do laundry 2x a week 5-7 tee shirts and 5-7 pjs in each size is fine. My son grew out of the 0-3 month stuff by 2 months but was in the 3-6 month stuff all the way to 6 months so I used a bit more of that size.

Well its handy to have quite a lot of 0-3 months as they are only in newborn for such a short space of time (if at all!) and good on you for stocking up on 3-6 as well but I really wouldn’t worry about that size as you will have plenty of time to buy more 3-6, and you never know how big your baby is going to be, they could be in newborn for a while or as i said almost straight into 0-3 which my little boy was. its always good to have extra, especially bibs, you will be surprised how many you get through, enough is never enough with bibs, and vests because they have a habbit of getting covered in poo in the early days as it seems to spill out of the sides of Nappy’s!!

Also forgot to mention that sometimes when you adore an outfit, when you put it on baby it looks horrible so nice to have lots of choice.

Realistically, what you need is a couple more than how often you are willing to do laundry. If you’re willing to do laundry every single day then you only need 2-3 outfits, onesies and PJs. If you’d prefer to do laundry once per week then you should have about 10-13 of each.

How long your baby will be in each size is hard to tell. Neither of my kids ever wore newborn size. My son was out of 0-3 in about 3 weeks, my daughter was out of 0-3 at 3 months. But at yard sale prices you can usually afford to get more than you’ll actually need and not be out very much money if you don’t use them.

Well, you really can’t ever have enough, in my opinon, although 20 boxes full of newborn clothing is a bit much. My sister actually had prepared several boxes of baby clothing for me, and started doing it as soon as I came out to the family that I was pregnant. She had boxes all the way up to 12 months fixed, which seriously came in handy.

Just like adult clothing, everything is made different. You don’t know what exactly is going to fit, what you think looks funny on the babe, what outfit you just absolutely hate, etc… so having a lot of clothing available is really nice.

I can’t really think of a specific amount of clothing you need though, just have a box or two available and ready, it’ll come in handy, because babies grow REALLY fast.
