they should all work out but you need the right sized hook to match the yarn….i have never had a problem using different yarns witht these patterns…i’m in australia and the yarn weights are different…..

You can replace this stitch as your main pattern stitch. For instance if you purchase a sweater pattern that uses the single crochet. You can use this stitch instead.

Yes you can. You will still be able to see the spike texture effect. If you wanted to, you can spike down one more row, to highlight the spike more since you are using one color.
